Course Objective
This webinar provides an introduction to Straddles, section 1092 of the IRC. It covers basic, mixed & identified straddles as well as qualified covered calls as related to calculating realized gains & losses on investment portfolios.

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Determine when a “Basic” Straddle has occurred and calculate any deferred losses  
  • Identify “Successor” positions for a “Basic” Straddle        
  • Use the “Identified” Straddles rule and disallow appropriate losses     
  • Identify a Qualified Covered Call      
  • Determine when 1256 contracts invoke the “Mixed” Straddle rule
