PRESS RELEASE

G2 FinTech to Re-present “Wash Sales: A Closer Look” Webinar

Re-presentation of advanced webinar on IRC Section 1091 will offer attendees the opportunity to earn CPE credit and participate in live Q&A session about the wash sale rule.

New York, September 14, 2015 — G2 FinTech, provider of tax analysis and compliance software for the investment management community, today announced that it will re-present Wash Sales: A Closer Look on Wednesday, September 30th, 10:00 am PT / 1:00 pm ET. The webinar is part of a series of Continuing Professional Education (CPE)-eligible webinars that provides tax practitioners and compliance officers at investment funds and their service providers with up-to-date guidelines on how to accurately perform tax analyses of securities transactions (TAST), a complex and costly part of generating book to tax adjustments.

This live, interactive and complimentary webinar is tailored for tax managers, fund accountants, controllers, CFOs, compliance officers and auditors. Participants will have the opportunity to earn CPE credit*.

Authorities on tax accounting of investment portfolios, Daniel Tilkin and William Fang, G2 FinTech's Tax and Business Analysts respectively, will lead Wash Sales: A Closer Look. Mr. Tilkin and Mr. Fang will provide an in-depth look at wash sales / section 1091 of the IRC and will discuss how to identify and treat this taxable event when calculating realized gains and losses on investment portfolios. They will use examples of securities transactions to show how to apply the wash sale rule and allow time for a Q&A session.

After this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define the following taxable events: a "rolling" or "chained" wash sale
  • Identify sublots ("branched" lots) and their adjusted cost bases
  • Apply the paradigm introduced in Hanlin v. Commissioner to identify substantially identical securities
  • Determine when a wash sale has been triggered due to the use of a contract or option to acquire the originally disposed security

Brian Roberti, G2 FinTech President commented, “We are responding to survey results — past webinar attendees are keen on a re-presentation of our “Wash Sales: A Closer Look” webinar. Delivering this now hits the mark for tax planning and tax compliance purposes: having nine months of meaningful, current-year data fuels both the opportunity to apply legitimate tax optimization techniques and to run full-year projections,” says Roberti. He continues, “G2 has already published seven white papers for tax practitioners related to the complex wash sale rule, with an eighth in the works. In a few weeks, we will speak on two panels — one about wash sales and another that covers 2016 tax planning — as a co-sponsor at the November Financial Research Associates (FRA) 17th Annual Effective Hedge Fund Tax Practices tax seminar, to be held at The Princeton Club in NYC.”
