G2 FinTech Announces Third Webinar of Series on Taxable Events and Investment Portfolios

“Constructive Sales: The Exceptions” is the third in a series of CPE-eligible webinars to provide best practice guidelines on Internal Revenue Code (IRC) compliance.

New York, September 15, 2014 — G2 FinTech, provider of tax analysis and compliance software for the investment management community, today announced its third webinar, Constructive Sales: The Exceptions, which will be held on Wednesday, October 8th at 1:00 pm ET. The webinar is part of a series of Continuing Professional Education (CPE)-eligible webinars created to provide tax practitioners and compliance officers at investment funds and investment fund service providers with up-to-date guidelines on how to accurately perform tax analyses of securities transactions (TAST), a complex and costly part of generating book to tax adjustments. This live, interactive and complimentary webinar is tailored for tax managers, fund accountants, controllers, CFOs, compliance officers and auditors. Participants will have the opportunity to earn CPE credit*.

An authority on TAST, G2 FinTech CEO and Founder George Michaels will lead Constructive Sales: The Exceptions. Michaels will discuss the Closed Transaction Exception and Serial Hedge Exception, two key exceptions to the constructive sale rule (section 1259) of the IRC. He will use examples to show how to interpret and implement these exceptions when calculating realized gains & losses on investment portfolios. At the close of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify "temporary" hedges and distinguish between these and "true" boxes
  • Determine when the "Closed Transaction Exception" has been satisfied and a constructive sale may be safely ignored
  • Apply the "Serial Hedge Exception" rule in the case where the "Closed Transaction Exception" fails but the constructive sale remains exempt
  • Distinguish between transactions that can cause the exception rules to fail versus those that can instigate new constructive sales

“Given the positive response to our first two webinars, we are confident that an advanced discussion about the constructive sale rule will also be well received,” says Brian Roberti, G2 FinTech President. Roberti continues, “Our webinar series continues to allow us to share our expertise and experience as a leading provider of tax analysis and compliance software. Our white papers section includes both a basic and an advanced white paper on constructive sales: Constructive Sales and Advanced Topics in Constructive Sales: The Exceptions. We will speak about constructive sales and related topics as co-sponsors at the Financial Research Associates (FRA) 16th Annual Effective Hedge Fund Tax Practices conference, November 18-19 at the Princeton Club, NYC.”

Similar to the attendance at its first two webinars, G2 expects tax practitioners, compliance and financial officers at different levels within hedge funds, hedge fund service providers and accounting & audit firms to sit-in on this 60-minute session that also includes a live Q&A period.
