G2 FinTech Announces 2nd Webinar of Series on Taxable Events and Investment Portfolios

“Wash Sales: A Closer Look” is the second in a series of CPE-eligible webinars to provide best practice guidelines on Internal Revenue Code (IRC) compliance.

New York, May 28, 2014 — G2 FinTech, provider of tax analysis and compliance software for the investment management community, today announced its second webinar, Wash Sales: A Closer Look, which will be held on Wednesday, June 18th at 1:00 pm ET. The webinar is part of a series of Continuing Professional Education (CPE)-eligible webinars created to provide tax practitioners and compliance officers at investment funds and investment fund service providers with up-to-date guidelines on how to accurately perform tax analyses of securities transactions (TAST), a complex and costly part of generating book to tax adjustments. This live, interactive and complimentary webinar is tailored for tax managers, fund accountants, controllers, CFOs, compliance officers and auditors. Participants will have the opportunity to earn CPE credit*.

An authority on TAST, G2 FinTech CEO and Founder George Michaels will lead Wash Sales: A Closer Look. Michaels will provide attendees with an in-depth look at wash sales / section 1091 of the IRC and will discuss how to identify and treat these taxable events when calculating realized gains and losses on investment portfolios. At the close of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Define the following taxable events: a "rolling" or "chained" wash sale
  • Identify sublots ("branched" lots) and their adjusted cost bases
  • Apply the paradigm introduced in Hanlin v. Commissioner to identify substantially identical securities
  • Determine when a wash sale has been triggered due to the use of a contract or option to acquire the originally disposed security

“We are very pleased with the turnout for our inaugural webinar, Wash Sales, Constructive Sales & Straddles: A Primer. Since this subject matter is so complex, and non-compliance with the IRC can result in costly fines and reputational damage, we believe an advanced discussion about the wash sale rule will be equally well received,” says Brian Roberti, G2 FinTech President. Roberti continues, “Our webinar series is an important part of our effort to share the experience and knowledge we have gained as a leading provider of tax analysis and compliance software. We recently added another white paper, Advanced Topics in Constructive Sales: The Exceptions, to our TAST Resource page, and last week we spoke on two panels at the 5th Annual Private Investment Funds Tax Master Class as co-sponsor of this Financial Research Associates (FRA) tax seminar held at the Princeton Club in NYC.”

Similar to the attendance at its inaugural webinar, G2 expects tax practitioners, compliance and financial officers at different levels within hedge funds, hedge fund service providers and accounting & audit firms to sit-in on this 60-minute session that also includes a live Q&A period.

*G2 FinTech is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors.
